Frequently asked questions

Is Odoo good for small businesses?

Often yes, because you can start with a few apps and grow without switching systems.

Is Odoo an accounting system?

It includes accounting, but its value is connecting accounting to sales, stock and operations.

Can Odoo be used in Arabic?

Yes, with right-to-left support and Arabic documents.

What is Odoo in simple terms?

Odoo is a set of business apps, such as CRM, sales, inventory, accounting, HR and website, built by the Belgian company Odoo S.A. on one shared database. You install only the apps you need and use them in a web browser or on mobile.

What is Odoo used for in practice?

A trader uses it from purchase to stock, sale, delivery and invoice; a factory adds manufacturing and bills of materials; a clinic or service company uses CRM, appointments, invoicing and HR; a retailer adds point of sale and an online store. Reports then come from the same data.

How does Odoo work?

All apps read and write the same database. Confirming a sales order creates the delivery, the delivery updates stock, and the invoice posts to accounting without re-entry. Odoo runs on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own server, and is configured to your processes, with custom modules only where needed.

What is Odoo’s business model?

Open core. The Community edition is free and open source; the Enterprise edition is a paid subscription, priced mainly per user, that adds more apps, hosting options and upgrades. A worldwide network of partners earns from implementation, customisation and support.

Is there an Odoo wiki?

There is no official Odoo wiki. The official documentation at odoo.com/documentation covers each app, the community forum answers practical questions, and Wikipedia has an article on the company’s history. Inside Odoo, the Knowledge app in the Enterprise edition works as an internal company wiki.

Who makes Odoo?

Odoo S.A., a Belgian company founded by Fabien Pinckaers. The software began as TinyERP, became OpenERP and was renamed Odoo in 2014.
