What is the difference between ERP and accounting software?

Accounting software manages invoices, payments, ledgers and financial reports. An ERP includes accounting but also manages sales orders, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing and other operations in one database, so financial records are created automatically from operational activity.

A simple test

If you hold stock, buy in one currency and sell in another, run a warehouse or a production line, or re-type orders into accounting, you have outgrown accounting software. If your business is mostly services with simple invoicing, good accounting software is enough, and Odoo lets you start with accounting and add operations later.
